Patient Care Intern

Patient Care Intern (PCI) program has been designed to bridge the gap between nursing school and the real-world clinical environment. The PCI will attend a six-week intensive course in the summer between their junior and senior years of nursing school (Note: For nursing students currently attending their freshman, sophomore and junior years in nursing school, please refer to the Patient Care Assistant – Supplemental tab). The course will focus on clinical judgement, organization and socialization skills, and additional training for a supportive role working directly with patients and professional staff at IU Health hospitals.

Candidates must attend a nursing school accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Nursing Education (CCNE). Applications will be accepted during the spring semester of students’ junior year.

PCI applicants must commit to year-round work and meet unit requirements of a minimum of 24 hours every 6 weeks in addition to attending the full six-week intensive course during the summer months. No time off will be approved during the six-week summer schedule.
