ACTIVITY TECHNICIAN

Description

Organize and independently instruct outpatient exercise classes - IU Health Be Well Programs, supervises and independently leads special activities and perform designated tasks related to the operation of Rehabilitation Services/Therapeutic Recreation department. Requires knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture, and comfort and care appropriate to the population served. Populations served by department are identified in the department's scope of service.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Must have the ability to accurately carry out instructions from assistants, therapists, and senior management.
  • Must have the ability to coordinate and complete a variety of assignments simultaneously, as well as, correctly prioritize and delegate based on caseload and patient needs.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, co-workers, managers and other personnel on a one to one basis using appropriate grammar, vocabulary and word usage.
  • Associate?s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired.
  • Valid IN driver?s license, good driving record and reliable transportation required.
  • Requires effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have the ability to frequently work in a standing position and do frequent walking. Must have the ability to frequently stoop, kneel, and bend. Must have the ability to squat, lift, bend, and turn to transfer a patient between two surfaces, from sitting to standing or lying to sitting and the strength to safely perform task. Must have the ability to exhibit standing balance adequate to assist patient with gait activities. Must have the ability to exhibit upper extremity coordination and dexterity sufficient to assemble patient therapy equipment. Must have the ability to lift a 10-pound weight from the floor to 36? above the floor. Must have the ability to physically apply up to 10 pounds of pressure in performing CPR. Must have the analytical ability to evaluate problem situations to determine the need for intervention by an assistant or therapist.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider CPR preferred or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer Certification at point of hire or must obtain AHA Health Care Provider CPR within 1st week of orientation prior to patient care required. Training for the position will be provided on the job.
  • Must have the ability to respond and react immediately with unimpeded auditory perception of verbal/vocal instruction. Must have the ability to accurately manage money in amounts of $100.00 bills. Must have the ability to drive to various locations.
