Unit Secretary

Description

This position exists to provide a combination of unit based Electronic Medical Record (EMR) super-user supportive functions and unit clerical/supply/equipment support functions. This position must have some demonstrated nursing and/or patient care knowledge and will help facilitate and identify the unit based training needs and operational assistance needed with the Electronic Medical Record for the visiting medical staff, the nursing staff, and the support staff. The employee functions as the unit based electronic medical record super-user and is responsible to ensure optimal communications into and out of the patient care delivery area.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Prefer experience and/or formal education that demonstrate knowledge of computers, basic patient care and medical terminology.
  • Computer entry experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of principles of infection control and standard precautions.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Basic knowledge of care and communication appropriate to age and developmental level of the patients and customers served.
  • Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills, as well as ability to demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to learn and to teach computer use.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage a complex workload.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding, repetitious movements.
  • Ability to maintain concentration in an environment with varied interruptions and variable noise levels.
  • Constant mental alertness and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Open to concept and development of new ideas, flexibility to implement computer related and operational improvements across the unit.
  • Telemetry certification recommended.
