Benefits and Opportunities
“My desire to seek out challenges is met with the opportunity to do more every day.”
I’ve always jumped at the chance to challenge myself and grow as a caregiver and professional. I first joined the IU Health team as a Patient Care Assistant while in nursing school. In the 15 years since, I’ve earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Nursing as well as an MBA. In response, IU Health has provided me with ever-increasing responsibility and challenges. I’m grateful to have built a successful, lasting career serving in roles ranging from Emergency Department Nurse to Director of Clinical Operations for Emergency Services in the North Central region.
“This place? It’s like a family to me. I honestly feel blessed to have met so many amazing people in my career.”
It is said it takes a village to raise a child – so too does it take a diverse team of individuals to care for those we serve. In my role, I’m challenged to make sense of how healthcare is changing and how all of our team members, both clinical and non-clinical, have such tremendous potential to serve the patient and affect his or her experience. But, it’s such an amazing feeling to work with people who do what they do not for the recognition, but because they too believe in working together to make a difference in the lives we touch.
“IU Health has provided the tools for me to hone my leadership skills and develop a successful career.”
When I reflect on my career at IU Health, I am grateful. It has been full of wonderful opportunities. I started in an entry-level position right out of high school and have benefitted from great leaders that took a personal interest in my growth and encouraged me to continue my education and professional growth. I’ve since benefited from development opportunities including free training courses, operation improvement processes, and unique professional organizations that help me be a better leader and invest in my team members. It all proves to me that, at IU Health, we care about one another.
“I am fortunate that IU Health embraces individuals for their shared passion to live a patient-centric mission.”
I once read a quote by Abraham Lincoln. ”The Best Way to Predict Your Future is to Create It.” Inspired by those words, I began my journey the summer of 2000 confident that IU Health would introduce me to the diversity and growth that I was desperately seeking and I have not been disappointed! In that time, I have served in various roles, from nurse, to hospital administrator, to my current role as a Director. It is here that words are put into action, and I am honored to be a part of a team that aims to improve the lives of others.
“I work with amazing team members, who make me better each and every day.”
I’ve served as a registered nurse, shift coordinator, and clinical educator since I started my career with IU Health, each with growing responsibility. I was also able to return to a staff nursing position when I was accepted to grad school so I could both work and go to school. I’m now entering the next stage in my career where I’m able to take care of some of the best kids ever, which definitely makes my job rewarding. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with team members from all walks of life. Because of such interactions, I’ve grown as a leader, and definitely improved my organizational and communication skills.
“I can only say, “Thank You,” to all the team members who help me along the way.”
I’ve really enjoyed my career at IU Health. I began making memories as an administrative assistant, where I first had the pleasure of interacting daily with patients, guests, and other team members. From there, I transferred to our Community Outreach team, and then to my current role. Along the way, I’ve had the opportunity to be engaged in efforts like Day of Service and State Fair exhibits. No matter the project or the team, I have been blessed to work with so many intelligent, fun, dedicated, caring people over the years. It’s just been a very rewarding experience full of hugs and high-fives.
“IU Health is a learning environment. Anyone can be successful if they are willing to put in the work and step out of their comfort zone.”
I grew up in a poor section of Fort Wayne and spent a few years figuring out what I wanted to do—but always felt I could do something more. Eventually, I started nursing school and took a role as a student nurse with IU Health. I then earned my ASN, BSN, and MSN degree as well. I’ve moved up doing a job that I love. I also serve as a chair for one of IU Health’s diversity affinity groups, which has given me the opportunity to be seen and share my story. Now, I find it most rewarding when a team member starts back to school and I can help them accomplish something that they have always wanted to do, too.
“I am grateful to be part of such a compassionate dedicated team of professionals who are committed to our mission.”
My introduction to IU Health began seven years ago when I accepted a position as a Guest Relations Associate. New challenges and greater responsibilities soon followed. I was promoted to Team Lead and had the opportunity to work at multiple locations throughout the system—all with a shared goal. Professionally, IU Health has provided continued education, training, and support. Personally, I participate in and benefit from the numerous Healthy Results courses and individualized health coach sessions that are made available to me.
