Job Description

Overview

This leader participates in the development and execution of clinical improvement and development strategies, including efforts for improved patient outcomes, reduced care variation, reduced physician burnout, and enhanced physician engagement. Assists the Chief Health Information Officer(s) (CHIO) in the clinical design and administration of the Cerner Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and other clinical information systems, in support of day-to-day patient care and system wide quality and performance improvement initiatives. Serves as a critical liaison to site and system clinical staff, site and system medical executive committees, site and system clinical departments. Improves clinical adoption, acceptance, and use of clinical information systems while enhancing physician satisfaction in the Cerner EMR. Serves as the critical bridge between clinical operations, information services, and research endeavors. Assists in creating an institutional culture that promotes agility, customer service, patient safety, and the highest standards of care quality and innovation. Represents the hospital in all technical-clinical governance matters.
Position Responsibilities:

  • Associated Chief Medical Information Officer (ACMIO) for Adult Academic Health Center will work with the IU Health Informatics function to leverage technology to improve clinical excellence, safety, education, and research.
  • Matrix reporting relationship to the AAHC executive leadership team, specifically the CMO, COO, President, and the IU Health Informatics Team, specifically the CMIO.
  • Works within a dyad structure with a AAHC IS leader to support the needs of the AAHC
  • Proven track record as informatics champion and leader
  • Clinically influential and strong communication skills
  • ACMIO will champion clinical informatics initiatives and lead specific initiatives.
  • Works with members of the AAHC leadership team leading, advising, and supporting state wide clinical informatics initiatives through:
      • huddles with physician and provider champions, meeting with the clinical informatics teams
      • attendance at appropriate AAHC informatics meetings, IS readiness acceptance team, Informatics Governance
      • evaluate, analyze and advise on requests for enhancements and new projects
  • Designing and integrating IS systems in the care setting of the healthcare system.
  • Analyzing peer performance data to identify opportunities where technology, such as electronic health records (EHRs), can improve patient care and user experience
  • Training physicians and providers on the use of necessary workflows and improving efficiency.
  • Working with senior leadership to create a strategic plan for Informatics & IS.
  • Member of professional organizations and pursue continuing education with IS conferences, certifications, and workshops.
  • Serve as a liaison between medical and technical departments and executive leadership
  • Partners with Chief Medical Officers to improve physician and provider adoption of emerging technologies introduced within the clinical setting.
  • Study industry trends in health care informatics that can be leveraged to increase efficiency in patient care
  • Develop standards and "rules" in medical terminology and application within problem lists to increase efficiency in patient care
  • Advise steering committees on subject of health informatics and policymaking within the organization
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Be a Board Certified Physician in primary specialty of practice and
  • IS systems/Clinical Informatics experience (preferred)

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Requires MD or DO with board certification.
  • Informatics, process improvement, and change management experience preferred
  • Board certified or board eligible in clinical informatics preferred, with experience in applied informatics or computer science required.
  • Requires 5-7 years of relevant experience, with a minimum of 3 years progressive leadership and management experience, in a matrix organization and complex health system.
  • Requires an understanding of Joint Commission, state, and federal guidelines, regulations and standards.

 

Reports to: Vice President-Chief Medical Officer-Adult Academic Health Center, dotted line reporting to the two Vice President's- Chief Medical Information Officers
