Shifts: PRN (Supplemental)- Days

Location: Riley Children's Hospital (Indianapolis, IN)

Preview a day in the life of a Respiratory Therapist at IU Health.

Our Respiratory Therapists work collaboratively with our patients, nurses, physicians and many other disciplines to design the best individualized care for each our patients. You will have the opportunity to train in the Acute Care Unit, the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, the Burn Unit, and the newly opened Maternity Tower which includes Labor and Delivery, Newborn and Maternity ICU. Successful team members will enjoy a values-based environment and be comfortable working with a diverse patient population. We have unit-based opportunities once team members are trained.  

Respiratory therapists provide evidence-based best practice including the latest technologies and therapies. We offer continuing education and professional development opportunities on a routine basis. We have opportunities for growth internally through Advanced Therapist, Clinical Specialist and ECMO technician positions. Our team is responsible for airway management, code response and ventilator management, in addition to providing all respiratory therapy modalities through our inpatient spaces. You will work to full extent of your licensure utilizing several respiratory-driven protocols. We are a staff-led department with endless opportunities for shared leadership and quality improvement.

 Requires current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the state of Indiana.
• Requires graduation from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) and regionally accredited respiratory care program.
• Requires that the N.B.R.C. (National Board for Respiratory Care) registry exam be passed within 13 months of hire date. The 13 month requirement for the RRT is void if hire date is one year past graduation date.
• Requires Healthcare Provider Certification. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Preferred ACLS; PALS; and/or NRP certification.
• Requires strong customer service skills.
• Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Requires the ability to deal with confidential patient information.
• Requires basic computer skills and ability to work with EMR.
