Job Description

Overview

This role serves as a leader to staff and seniors on the tax team and assists the Manager and Executive Director in the operation of the Tax Department as it relates to tax compliance, planning, and research.

Strongly desire a highly engaged team member who is interested in growing within our team, as we are looking for someone who wants to advance into the tax manager role, as a part of our succession plan. Strategic thinking, taking initiative, and leadership attributes are key to success in this position.

This role:

  • Handles federal, state, and local tax return compliance for Indiana's largest healthcare system consisting of both taxable and tax-exempt organizations.
  • Is responsible for project planning, tracking status of projects, as well as day to day direction and mentoring of tax staff
  • Advises management regarding the effects of business activities on taxes, and staying abreast of pending tax legislation and understanding the potential impact to the system.
  • Interacts with many other teams within the IU Health system.
  • Provides ongoing analysis, development, and implementation of methods and systems to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of the tax team.
  • Supports the legal entity reduction efforts driven by the Tax Department.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • BA or BS in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Five to seven years of related experience preferred.
  • Experience with tax compliance for tax-exempt entities and healthcare systems is highly desired. 
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail is essential.
  • Requires a high level of interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Requires ability to promote teamwork, build effective relationships, and lead workgroups.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Ability to be agile and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with Crowe CTRAC software would be especially helpful.

Our system finance team, including the tax department, values and encourages professional development, including the CPA designation and involvement in professional organizations.

This position is mostly remote; however at least one day per week is dedicated to being in the office to connect as a team and collaborate. Depending on the business needs, the amount of in-office time could be more some weeks.
