The Strategy Consultant will support strategy development and execution in partnership with the Riley Children’s Health leadership team and in collaboration with the IU Health system strategy office. This role supports execution and accountability of the operational and strategic pillars for Riley Children’s Health. This position reports to the Director of Strategy and Planning at Riley Children’s Health.

Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health is honored to be ranked among the top children's hospitals in the country by the U.S. News & World Report. In 2021-22, Riley at IU Health ranked in 10 out of the 10 categories. Riley remains the only nationally ranked children's hospital in Indiana and ranks among the top 50 children's hospitals in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Provides analytic, research, and project management support for Riley Children’s Health strategy projects and initiatives, including environmental assessments, updates and revisions of the organizational strategy, service line strategic planning, and other strategy-related projects identified by senior management.
  • Supports the Strategy team's role in the process for annually allocating strategic capital and operating funds.
  • Provides project leadership for strategic initiatives. Defines projects, develops project plans, and sets priorities for working teams. Facilitates growth strategy discussions with clinical leadership
  • Monitors performance of departmental strategic initiatives. Routinely reports progress to goals. Works with Division and Department Leadership to set annual and long-term goals that align with Riley strategic priorities.
  • Tracks key industry and competitive trends and prepares reports as directed.
  • Collaborates effectively with other IU Health system strategy professionals to ensure alignment across IU Health related to Riley Children’s Health initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years of relevant experience required or Master's Degree (MBA, MHA, MPH or relevant focus area) and 3-5 years of experience required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong Analytical and communication skills, including data visualization and ability to effectively communicate to executive level stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize complex planning information for a variety of key stakeholders for decision making at all levels of the organization.
  • Two years of experience in healthcare planning, clinical operations, physician practice management, hospital operations, or healthcare consulting preferred.

Business Acumen - Exhibits a solid understanding of the organization and how it is structured, the dynamics of the health systems industry at large, and the overall competitive landscape. Has foundational knowledge of business functions and operations of their area and the customers they serve. Manages projects and initiative budgets, and consistently applies principles of core business functions (finance, marketing, economics, sales, technology, and business systems) to make sound judgments.

Execution - Drives results by assigning clear authority and accountability, integrating and aligning efforts across the team, and monitoring progress against objectives. Conveys a strong sense of urgency around continuous improvement, achieving high quality results, and accelerating business performance. Addresses problems directly and drives changes necessary to achieve business objectives.

Communication - Shares thoughts and information in a clear, concise and professional manner, in both oral and written communication formats. Demonstrates active listening and seeks further information to ensure clarity and understanding. Proactively asks for input and remains open to the thoughts and ideas of others.  Promptly responds to requests for information and works to proactively think through next steps and anticipate potential issues, requests, or business needs. Openly shares knowledge and expertise.
