Job Description

Overview

We are looking for team members who are passionate about challenging and significant work for the good of every patient. We are searching for individuals who are compassionate, serve with a purpose, are dedicated to supporting their team, and who seek excellence every day.

Sound like a perfect match? Apply now - we can't wait to hear from you!

This position involves providing genetic counseling for individuals seen in the Indiana University Health Cancer Program.  This newly established program provides support and management to those at high risk for developing cancer, due to identification of an underlying germline predisposition, to take a comprehensive approach to their long term management.  The genetic counselor in this role will educate individuals and their families regarding the outcome of germline genetic testing, including the natural history of the condition and significance for at-risk family members. This role therefore will include, but is not limited to, obtaining personal and family medical history information, requesting and reviewing relevant medical records, and communicating genetic risk factors and clinical implications.  Since many of these patients will receive long term management support through this clinic, the genetic counselor will be involved in updating the family history over time, providing continuity of care as pediatric patients transition to this adult service, and updating families on variants which have been identified and may be reclassified.  You may teach or oversee genetic counseling students as well as other learners, educate other health professionals, and connect with community organizations that serve this unique patient population.  In addition, there will be opportunities to be involved in research, potentially with clinical trial participants. While previous experience working in cancer genetic counseling is preferred we would consider new graduates with unique skillsets and training.

Requires Masters degree in Genetic Counseling or Medical Genetics.
• Required to maintain a current Genetic Counselor license in the state of Indiana.
• Requires Board Certification by ABMG/ABGC or Board eligible within 1 year of employment.
• Requires basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity and inclusion at IU Health. IU Health does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, national origin, gender identity and/or expression, marital status or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local law. We will ensure that individuals with disabilities are provided reasonable accommodation to participate in the job application or interview process, to perform essential job functions, and to receive other benefits and privileges of employment. Please contact us to request accommodation.
