We are hiring for a full- time ED experience nurse to work as an NPD Generalist to oversee, maintain, and direct onboarding and reoccurring education related to the Emergency Department and Medical Observation unit at IU Health Bloomington Hospital!

The Nursing Professional Development Generalist (NPD) role is multifaceted and includes functioning as a Learning Facilitator, Change Agent, Mentor, Leader, Champion for Inquiry, Advocate for the NPD Specialty, and Partner for Practice Transitions.

Orientation & Onboarding - The NPD role plays a vital role in decreasing turnover, supporting orientees, and developing coaches as informal leaders.

Education - The NPD is trained to apply evidence-based concepts such as adult learning methods and brain-based learning techniques to educate new and experienced staff members.

Role Development - The NPD serves as a mentor by offering their expertise and resources to support team members' professional development. The NPD also leads by example by aligning their work with the vision and values of the organization.

Competency Management - The NPD creates sustainable programs by only requiring staff to complete meaningful and valuable competencies.

Inquiry - The NPD guides staff through the process of completing EBP projects, submitting abstracts, presenting at conferences, and publishing manuscripts.

Collaborative Relationships - The NPD builds and maintains mutually beneficial relationships with various disciplines that share common goals.

This role will promote and advocate for professional staff development programs and curricula that support the needs of the clinical learner and the organization, beginning with newly hired clinical employee and continuing on through the expert clinician. They will also model the application of evidence-based practice in the scholarship of teaching and learning; provide direction and support through strategic planning to meet the employee's educational needs identified through structural needs assessments, regulatory agency requirements, quality outcomes data and leadership direction. Serve as a role model and expert for clinical educators and advocates for their continued growth and professional development. 

  • Bachelors Degree of Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • 2 years of experience as a clinical nurse preferred.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to travel as needed to meet the system educational needs. 
  • Must have the ability to display knowledge and utilization of principles of adult learning.
  • ED Experience strongly preferred
