Overview

Indiana University Health Ethics seeks a Nurse Ethicist to lead, expand, and sustain an existing program in Nursing Ethics.  The ethics resources at IUH are comprised of the IUH Department of Clinical and Organizational Ethics and the endowed Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable moving fluidly between both entities, as well as the Indiana University School of Nursing, which serves as one of IUH’s primary academic partners.  This individual will serve as a resource and offer guidance regarding nursing ethics, as well as assist more broadly in the clinical ethics programs at IUH.  Specifically, this person will serve as an instructor in academic courses in applied ethics particularly within the IU School of Nursing, and act as a liaison for IU Health's other academic partners.  The candidate will further be responsible for mentoring nurses and other health care providers, as well as teaching in the Fairbanks Center for Medical Ethics Fellowship in Clinical Ethics.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program is required.
  • Advanced degree in either Nursing (MSN, PhD) or Bioethics (MA, PhD, D.Be.) is required. Terminal degree is preferred.
  • For candidates whose advanced degree is in Nursing, candidates must have completed additional training or education in Bioethics (fellowship, certificate program, degree concentration, or minor).
  • Requires 5-10 years of experience as a clinical nurse ethicist providing ethics consultations, including serving on call (24/7) for clinical ethics consultation services. 
  • Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • HEC-C completion or eligibility with willingness to complete HEC-C within one year of hire date.
  • Requires demonstrated success developing and growing programs in Bioethics, and/or collaborating in the development of such programs, with expertise developing programming in Nursing Ethics.
  • Must have significant experience and expertise in research and scholarship in the area of Bioethics/Clinical Ethics, including a dossier that includes both solo-authored and collaboratively produced publications. Substantial experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods is preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated leadership experience in a healthcare organization and complex work environment.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as a Registered Nurse within 6 months of hire date.
