Registered Nurse-PRN-Days-Cardiology Experienced RN's

Job Description

Overview

Cardiology is a nursing specialty involving the treatment of cardiovascular problems with surgery, medication, and lifestyle recommendations. A cardiology nurse, also called a cardiovascular nurse, is part of a team that includes doctors, surgeons, and technicians.

Cardiology nurses record a patient's medical history and symptoms, administer various treatments and medications, perform diagnostic testing or have the testing done by qualified technicians, and help diagnose the results. Another responsibility you'll have is talking to patients and their families, helping them understand heart conditions and educating them on relevant health problems and procedures.

As a cardiovascular nurse, you'll likely be working in the hospital as part of a cardiology team, helping patients who have coronary heart disease, have suffered recent heart attacks, or are recovering from heart surgery. After consulting with other health professionals and determining risk factors for further cardiovascular problems, you'll work with patients to plan a course of action to keep their cardiovascular systems healthy after surgery or treatment. These plans might involve lifestyle modifications involving nutrition, smoking, exercise regimens, and other health factors.

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
