Job Description

Overview

A Dosimetrist supports the radiation therapy department by providing a full range of physics services including, but not limited to dosimetry, treatment planning, and quality assurance activities.  Designs treatment plans with optimal beam geometry in accordance with the Radiation Oncologists prescription.  Accurately contours organs and other dose limiting structures.  Assumes proficiency in image registration with various image data sets.  Communicates, assists, and advises the Radiation Therapist in simulations, fabrication of custom devices, and implementation of the treatment plan.  Performs calculations for accurate delivery of the prescribe dose.  Documents all pertinent information in the patient record.  Provides assistance to the Medical Physicist as needed.


 Certified Medical Dosimetrist certification (CMD) and/or experience as a Registered Radiation Therapist is required prior to 3/1/02019. After 3/1/2019 Certified Medical Dosimetrist certification (CMD) is required within one year of hire.
• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
• Requires ability to work independently, interpreting and executing treatment plans, consulting with dosimetrists, medical physicists, and radiation oncologists.
• Requires strong mathematical skills including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
• Requires ability to visualize objects in three dimensions to facilitate treatment planning.
• Requires knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Requires knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations.
