Riley Pediatric Dentistry is seeking Expanded Function Dental Assistants for our growing team. This is a rewarding career for individuals who are passionate about helping the children of Indiana. Ideal candidates will have the following:
Pediatric, orthodontic, or family dentistry experience.
Knowledge of Dentrix or Dexis computer programs. (or like applications)
An interest in learning and growing and expanding on their professional experience.
Willingness to work with patients with special behavioral or health needs.
Desire to make a difference in someone’s life.
Days/Shift: Part time
The Dental Expanded Function Assistant performs advanced dental care services in a clinical setting or operating room, at the direction of a Dentist. Assures accurate collection and reporting of patient intake data, medical history, cognitive/emotional diagnosis, and clinical care provided. Prioritizes patent care based on resources, unit volume, and patient prognosis. Facilitates smooth patient flow, provides patient education/teaching, explains insurance coverage/co-pays, and assures necessary documents are complete. Ensures the presence and proper arrangement of instruments, equipment, and supplies in the treatment area prior to each procedure. Assists dentist/hygienist as directed and performs advanced expanded functions assisting techniques, places restorations and fits bands/brackets/appliances. Performs bedside dental assisting consistent with service specific to general anesthesia dentistry. As directed by Dentist/Hygienist, obtains diagnostic dental x-rays using safe radiology process. Uses advanced behavior management techniques to support safe and effective care with uncooperative patients. Identifies and responds to medical emergencies. Maintains, organizes, stocks, and cleans dental equipment and unit(s). Responsible for aseptic/sterile processing of dental instruments, reusable supplies, and equipment in accordance with regulatory requirements, infection control policies, and best practice recommendations. Performs administrative and registration duties, schedules patient visits, and engages in patient correspondence. Expected to precept and mentor professional skill, techniques, and behaviors in others. Additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
On feet for up to 8-9 hours per day.
Physically manage patients
Physical management of patients who are uncooperative
New mobile X-ray machine (10 – 15 lbs.)
Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Requires 3-5 years of relevant experience.
BLS-CPR Certification required.
Dental Radiology License in State of Indiana required.
Certification form accredited training program for Expanded Function Dental Assisting or On The Job Training with a minimum of 5 years' experience as pediatric EFDA required.
Certification in Coronal Polishing and Caries Prevention Procedures preferred.
National Dental Assisting Board Certification optional.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the job required.
Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English required.
