We are a combined ICU/PCU with focused daily rounding on each patient, mobilization of even some of our most ill patients, pronation and Bi-level therapy for our acute respiratory distress syndrome patients, balloon pump, DKA, artic sun, post Cath-lab, and STEMI. 

As Cardiac care nurse at IU Health Saxony you will treat patients of all ages across the lifespan who have been affected by cardiac issues and disorders like cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, myocardial infarction, unstable angina, congestive heart failure, bypass surgery, and others. While the responsibilities and duties of the cardiac care nurse will vary from setting to setting, they may perform health assessments, stress tests, administer heart medications, assist in defibrillation, or care for patients after operations. These nurses can be found working in cardiac catheterization areas, cardiac stress areas, surgical suites, and telemetry units working closely alongside cardiologists to ensure and expedite quality care.

Shift: Full Time Night. 7PM-730AM, 3- 12-hour shifts  

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.

Some duties carried out by cardiac care nurses include:

  • Monitor pain, administer medication, insert, and remove IVs.
  • Examine and assess patients.
  • Monitor cardiac and vascular readings.
  • Carry out electrocardiograms (EKGs)
  • Perform stress test evaluations.
  • Educate patients and their loved ones about diseases, processes, treatments, and prevention techniques.
  • Provide postoperative care after pacemaker implants, bypasses, and other heart surgeries.
  • Treat various chronic health conditions
  • Monitor use of a defibrillator
  • Assist cardiologists and surgeons during procedures and other tasks.
