Architect (IS Enterprise Analytics)

Job Description

Overview

Summary

The Data Architect is responsible for understanding, qualifying, and estimating new opportunities from a technology perspective, supporting proposal and SOW generation, making presentations, and leading and supplying directly to the successful delivery of the IU Health Data Analytics architecture and Enterprise Data Warehouse. Typically, he/she performs the following: must have in-depth technical experience analyzing system and database requirements assessment, definition and planning of enterprise, solution and component data analytics architecture and technology; hands-on role in crafting and executing technical proof-of-concept initiatives; and technical leadership of solution design and engineering teams. Acts as a coach/mentor to engineers, developers and architects throughout the IS organization. Ensures delivery teams are equipped with the leadership and mentorship necessary to optimally deliver their solutions and keeps the enterprise architecture team informed regarding alignment with enterprise standards and guidelines.

Essential Functions

  • Design, construct, install, test and maintain highly scalable big data analytics pipelines
  • Lead development and maintenance of logical & physical data model designs, data management standards and conventions, data naming standards and metadata (normalized, de-normalized and STAR-based structures)
  • Identify Industry Standards, standardize and cross-mapping databases using common data models such as OMOP, HL7 FHIR, or OMOP on FHIR, to achieve Interoperability
  • Experience with common data model implementations
  • Document definition of process/guidelines/standards and lead higher level planning efforts
  • Direct support of business intelligence and analytics teams throughout the IU Health organization

  • Comfortable engaging with personnel at all levels of leadership
  • Ability to listen to others and incorporate good ideas regardless of source
  • Professional in all communication and interaction with others
  • Willing to admit mistakes and make course corrections quickly

 

Analysis & Communication

  • Proven work experience as a Data Architect, Sr. Data Analyst, Data Engineer or similar roles.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting with deep exposure to Payer and Provider oriented terminologies (Nice to Have).
  • Ability to assess/analyze information needs objectively
  • Ability to document database modeling, common data model mapping, data dictionary creation, etc.
  • Ability to drill down and ask the right questions to arrive at root cause
  • Confident in front of both management and developer audiences; ability to customize communication for both
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to new business domains and technologies
  • Good written communication skills; ability to use accurate grammar and structure communication in a way that makes it easy to understand
  • Ability to navigate difficult conversations, remain objective and achieve sound outcomes

 

Technology & Capabilities Required

  • Programming/scripting languages: Scala, Python, SQL, and PowerShell
  • Data integration: ETL and ELT development paradigms and platforms - Informatica Cloud, Azure Data Factory, Apache Spark/Databricks, Delta, Airflow/Luigi/Nifi, and Kafka
  • Big Data Platforms: Azure Data Lake, Apache Spark/Databricks, MPP Data Warehouses such as Azure Synapse (SQL DW), Amazon Redshift, Snowflake
  • Software development methodologies/concepts: SDLC, Agile, Scrum, Git, Continuous Integration
  • Common data models: HL7 (Preferred), OMOP (Preferred), FHIR (Nice to Have), OMOP on FHIR (Nice to Have).
  • Data Quality/Governance: Informatica IDQ, EDC, AXON
  • Deep understanding and knowledge of Terminology Standards such as ICD10, CPT, Snomed, LOINC, RXNorm (Must Have), ERGs, RERGs, DRGs (Nice to Have).
  • Knowledge of the Healthcare Ecosystem and Use Cases - e.g., Care Workflows, Careplans, Prior Auth, Population Health, Segmentation/Stratification, Risk Computation, etc. (Nice to Have).
  • Experience with history tables, fact vs. dimension tables (slowly changing dimensions, SCD type 2), Git and Source Control, Azure cloud, Data Lake, Data Factory, Synapse, Python, Spark, Databricks.
  • Working knowledge of SOLID development principles
  • Expertise in SQL

 

QUALIFICATIONS/ATTRIBUTES/ABILITIES


 Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent experience.
•5-7 years of experience required.
• Requires knowledge of EA frameworks and design tools.
• Requires deep expertise in at least one technology domain.
