Overview
This unit specializes in Surgical Oncology, specifically: pancreatic cancer, colorectal cancer, and ear/nose/and throat cancers. This is a high functioning, fast paced surgical and specialized care unit. Team members will be a part of a lot of peer-to-peer team collaboration and decision making for recovering post-surgical patients with a cancer diagnosis.

The Patient Care Intern Progression Program helps student nurses on their pathway to becoming an RN while gaining hands-on patient care experience. IU Health provides these future nurses with learning, mentorship, and progression opportunities as they work toward their degree. In this role, you’ll work alongside other healthcare professionals to strengthen your skills in patient care, decision-making, and critical thinking.
The Patient Care Intern I (PCI I) works under the direction of the registered nurse (RN) as a non-licensed team member. As a non-licensed team member, the PCI provides care to designated patients and supports the patient care team. Job duties include observation of the registered nurse, provision of activities of daily living, mobility assistance, mobility assistance, continuous observation including suicide prevention, and ensuring the patient's surroundings are clean and orderly.
