Overview

Indiana University Health is looking for a dynamic, collaborative, and results-oriented leader to join our Human Resources leadership team as the Director of Human Resources for the Adult Academic Health Center. 

The Director of Human Resources – Adult Academic Health Center (AAHC) leads the delivery of the comprehensive strategic HR services and support for IU Health Methodist and University Hospitals. The Director partners with business leaders to design, develop and implement employee relations, engagement, performance management, succession planning, career development, and compensation and benefits strategies, programs, and processes, in partnership with the HR Centers of Excellence (COE). This leader reports directly to and works closely with the Vice President of Human Resources for the AAHC, and is a designated member of the HR Leadership team. 

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Leading, coaching, and mentoring a team responsible for delivering HR support to leaders and team members of the Adult Academic Health Center.
  • Partnering closely with system, regional, and COE HR leaders in areas such as Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Learning, and Development, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, to ensure system strategies are incorporated and executed by the team appropriately. 
  • Focusing on strategic project implementation, effective collaboration, and serving as a first-line point of contact for senior leadership.
  • Interpreting both business and HR metrics critical to driving results, and ensuring their recommendations and work deliverables appropriately align.
  • Serving as an internal advisor, coach, and business partner to leaders and the HR team, making recommendations that promote IU Health’s mission and overall business objectives.
  • Addressing high priority, sensitive issues as needed, with a high level of confidentiality.

This role is mostly onsite with flexibility, as needed. The Director of Human Resources for the AAHC will regularly meet with business leaders and the HR team at multiple locations in Downtown Indianapolis.

  • Reports to: Vice President – Human Resources – Adult Academic Health Center
  • Direct Reports: Senior HR Consultants (3), Intermediate HR Consultants (4), HR Specialist (1), HR Assistant (1)
  • Key Relationships
    • System, Regional, and Center of Excellence HR Directors
    • AAHC Directors
    • AAHC Monthly Business Review team (comprised of directors in areas such as Finance, Operational Excellence, Nursing, and Clinical Operations)
    • Legal Team

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be selected from a diverse pool and will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent years of experience. Master's preferred.
  • 7-10 years of relevant HR experience with a minimum of 3 years leadership experience.
  • Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP, SPHR, Project Management, etc. preferred.
  • Prior management experience in a complex, matrix organization.
  • Experience leading the design, development, and execution of large scale HR programs.
  • Experience working with complex compensation systems and structures.
  • Experience handling highly complex, challenging situations requiring exemplary professional judgment and diplomacy 
  • Experience coaching and developing diverse groups and all levels of professionals.
  • Able to guide the application of HR related regulations (e.g. ; FLSA; COBRA; ADA; FMLA; etc.).
  • Requires basic proficiency in MS office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
