Job Description

Overview

The Director- Nursing Professional Development in the South-Central Region, which includes IU Health Bloomington, Bedford, and Paoli Hospitals, is responsible for the design, implementation, and evaluation of a program creating nursing education scholars advancing the science of nursing and patient education. This leader will serve as a liaison with schools of nursing and creates the environment where the organization nurses support academic practicum experiences and serve as preceptors, instructors, adjunct faculty, or faculty (ANCC, 2008). The Director oversees professional placement, training, and evaluation of assignments for employees and students and is responsible for creating a system wide evidence-based patient education experience reflecting health literacy literature and evidence-based practice. 

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:

  • Ensuring alignment of functional initiatives with IUH’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Building and strengthening talent pipelines through ongoing analysis of gaps in academic practicum experiences.  
  • Providing Magnet designation support and recommendations to shape and steer sustained value in the delivery of IU Health’s short- and long-term goals. 
  • Coordinating, implementing, and evaluating continuous quality improvement activities; establishing policy and direction for Nursing Professional Development.
  • Developing programs in performance improvement methodologies, data analysis, data processing, work simplification techniques, as well as other subjects related to performance improvement.

Qualifications/knowledge/skills/abilities

  • Master of Nursing or related field is required.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires completion Clinical Specialty Professional Certification within 1 year upon meeting eligibility requirements.
  • Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.

Reports to: Associate Chief Nursing Officer.

Direct reports: 1 manager; dotted line leadership with Bedford and Paoli. 

Other Key Relationships: IU School of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Leadership team for strategic alignment, and Human Resources.
