Overview

Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses play an integral role in the care of patients with cardiac conditions. From providing patient education and monitoring vital signs, to performing diagnostic tests and helping to rehabilitate patients after a cardiac event, these nurses are dedicated to helping patients recover and improve their health.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses: Duties, Responsibilities, and Job Description Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses are dedicated healthcare professionals who provide specialized care for individuals who have suffered from cardiac events or have been diagnosed with cardiac conditions. They are responsible for providing comprehensive education, medical care, and emotional support to their patients as they navigate the often complex and confusing world of heart health. Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses must be knowledgeable in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of cardiac patients, as well as knowledgeable in the prevention of further heart disease. Cardiac Rehabilitation Nurses are responsible for providing patient education and performing assessments to identify patients’ risk factors for heart disease. They must also be able to develop and implement tailored care plans that meet the individual needs of each patient.

In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment, and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and IU Health policies and procedures; serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments. Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department. Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery.

Shift: Day shift, No weekends, No Holidays.

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
