Job Description

Overview

Indiana University Health is seeking a dynamic and collaborative leader to serve as the Director - Safety for the Adult Academic Health Center (AAHC). The Director of Safety is responsible for determining the strategic vision and priorities of environmental, safety, and emergency preparedness for the AAHC, comprised of IU Health Methodist and University Hospitals in Downtown Indianapolis, and other related administrative and clinical buildings. This leader regularly interfaces with leadership, physicians, nursing staff, patients, and frontline team members, as well as engages in rounding and process improvement to ensure the safety of employees, patients, guests, and corporate assets.

ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE: 

  • Executing organization development strategy and driving change initiatives to optimize organizational potential and achieve strategic business and operational objectives.  
  • Refining and monitoring disaster recovery programs to ensure effectiveness, agility, inclusiveness, and scalability and may serve as an incident commander during emergent events.  
  • Providing leadership, prioritizing resources, leading strategic planning, and providing broad administrative direction necessary for the safe and efficient operation of these facilities.  
  • Supporting and aligning a proactive safety and security program with a matrix relationship to the Police Department for the direct processing, identification, analysis, and prevention of security/safety risk issues.  
  • Developing, aligning, and implementing safety and security program policies and procedures.  
  • Providing direction and assistance to management and team members across the region on safety, regulatory, emergency preparedness, police, security and other related matters.
  • Serving as the chair for the Environment of Care committee and is responsible for its regulatory requirement plans, annual reports and annual presentation to the Executive Quality and Safety committee. 
  • Serving on Policy and Steering Group.  

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Reports to: Director – Operations
  • Direct reports: Manager – Emergency Preparedness and Manager – Safety (total org of 8 team members)

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Management or related area is preferred.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in business, public administration, criminal justice or related field is required.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and Local regulatory guidelines and laws.
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships with key local community leaders to ensure inclusive safety planning and disaster preparedness preferred. 
  • Experience collaborating with an academic setting preferred.
