Job Description

Overview

Indiana University Health is posting this opportunity on behalf of the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Medicine.

Position Summary

Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) Department of Medicine, in partnership with Indiana University Health (IUH) and Indiana University Health Physicians (IUHP), is recruiting a Cardiovascular Medicine Division Chief who will also serve as the Co-Director of the IUH/IUSM Cardiovascular Institute (CVI). As the Division Chief, the position will lead the academic faculty in research, education, and clinical care. This position will co-lead the IUH/IUSM CVI with the other co-lead from the Department of Surgery to develop and execute strategies that will further the joint interests of the health system and the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have a strong background in academic leadership across the tripartite clinical, education, and research missions. Additional qualifications include a national reputation in cardiology, a record of scholarship in the discipline, and documented success in leading collaborative strategic initiatives.

IU School of Medicine is the largest medical school in the country, with more than 25,000 alumni and 3,000 learners on nine campuses across the state. Its diverse faculty comprises 3,095 full-time members and 3,783 volunteer faculty responsible for training medical, graduate, and postgraduate students. IU School of Medicine is the only allopathic medical school in Indiana. IU School of Medicine is closely aligned with our health system partner, IU Health, which has twice earned a place on the US News and World Report Honor Roll. The shared vision of both institutions is to lead the transformation of healthcare through quality, innovation, and education to make Indiana one of the nation’s healthiest states. IU Health is among the top ten largest single-state nonprofit health systems in the United States, operating 16 hospitals statewide (a mix of urban, suburban, and rural facilities). This partnership enables the seamless integration of research findings into patient care.

Indiana University School of Medicine physicians are members of IU Health Physicians, a multi-disciplinary group practice that is led and managed by the IU School of Medicine faculty. The school has moved more than 65 independent physician groups into the group practice to improve the delivery of care and strengthen the alignment of clinical, educational, and research missions. As a result, more Hoosiers have access to advanced care and the most promising therapies in the form of clinical research studies.

The IUH/IUSM CVI Co-Director/Division Chief of Cardiovascular Medicine will work collaboratively with IUH senior leaders, CVI-focused department chairs, division chiefs, and other key individuals to accomplish the following goals:
  • Continue to strengthen the Krannert Cardiovascular Research Center’s research mission and foster multidisciplinary research with a high clinical impact.
  • Continue to strengthen the education mission of the division, department, and school.
  • Develop and deploy CVI strategic initiatives collaboratively with the Surgery co-chair as informed by the CVI executive committee and leveraging the unique relationship between the IUSM and IUH.
  • Develop and implement a cardiovascular service plan in collaboration with Adult Academic Health Center (AAHC) and Indianapolis Suburban Region (ISR) operational leadership across the Indianapolis Metro Area using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Develop and deploy appropriate provider staffing and recruitment plans across the AAHC and ISR and recruit and retain top talent.
  • Enhance access to cardiovascular services through improved referral processes and develop destination cardiovascular services to be the market leader.
  • Actively drive a patient-focused culture that supports provider wellness and engagement.
  • Advance the CVI to a national distinction, including US News and World Report Best Hospitals Rankings, collaboratively with the other co-lead.
As Co-Director of the IUH/IUSM CVI, this position will report to the President of the AAHC and the President of IUHP. In the capacity of Division Chief, this position will report to the Chair of the Department of Medicine. The ideal candidate will combine thoughtful leadership, creativity, and an entrepreneurial spirit to shape the future of cardiovascular care, education, and research.

As the nation’s largest medical school, IUSM is committed to being an institution that not only reflects the diversity of the learners we teach and the patient populations we serve, but also pursues the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We desire candidates who enhance our representational diversity, as well as those whose work contributes to equitable and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUSM strives to take an anti-racist stance, regularly evaluating and updating its policies, procedures, and practices to confer equitable opportunities for contribution and advancement for all members of our community. We invite individuals who will join us in our mission to advance racial equity to transform health and well-being for all throughout the state of Indiana.
