Job Description

Overview

The Director – Trauma & Acute Care Surgery is responsible for the administration and leadership of the Acute Care Surgery services, which include Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care for IU Health Academic Health Center- Adult Hospitals. The Director is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating initiatives around the growth, quality/patient safety, customer service, physician integration and consistency of practice for the Acute Care Surgery services at the Academic Health Center- Adult Hospitals. This leader will oversee continued success of ongoing program verifications/accreditations through support and guidance to area manager/leader. The Director collaborates with key constituencies to develop and implement the strategic plan, financial performance, patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes for the Acute Care Surgery service line. This leader collaborates with service line Medical Leadership to develop and formalize an integrated approach throughout the AHC Adult Hospital's as well as leads the AHC-Adult Hospital's Acute Care Surgery services in achieving strong financial performance by generating new revenue, containing costs, increasing the quality of care and service offered to patients, maximizing reimbursement and effectively managing the operations. The Director - Trauma & Acute Care Surgery identifies key stakeholders around comprehensive Acute Care Surgery services and develops a strategy to engage them in building and maintaining a preeminent service model and national leader in Acute Care Surgery. This leader will act as a partner of the IU Health AHC- Adult Hospitals Leadership team and participate in the strategic planning and the attainment of goals for area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Preferred Doctorate Degree in Nursing, Master's Degree Required.
  • Requires 7-10 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires experience in a health system setting in a highly competitive market.
  • Requires a minimum of 5 years experience in the delivery and/or development of a (strategic) business unit, entity, department or program.
  • Requires interpersonal; negotiation, including problem solving and analytical skills, and presentation skills; with the ability to lead groups and programs.
  • Requires knowledge of state and national regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Requires the ability to pioneer effective quality improvement initiatives that reflect on the corporate scorecard.
  • Requires a thorough understanding of the American College of Surgeons framework and accreditation process.
