The RN in this role will be in the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Clinic and Infusion Center at Riley Children’s Hospital. Nursing skills gained on this unit: 

·         Critical thinking in a fast-paced environment 

  •  Ambulatory experience 
  • Infusion experience 

·         Nursing skills such as Central Line access and maintenance care, PIVs, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood product, and medication administration 

  • Training on hypersensitivity reaction 
  • Patient advocacy 

·        Flexibility and Adaptability 

           

Unit Successes/Designations: 

·         APHON chemotherapy/biotherapy certified nurses 

·         Team of highly dedicated nurses and medical assistants 

  

Unit Culture Highlights: 

·       The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency 

  • Work directly with oncology trained pharmacists on site infusion area 
  • Encourage nurse led governance councils 
  • Multiple coaches available for training 

 

Qualifications  

  • Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy experience with certification (required within 6 months) 
  • Hem/Onc experience or Ambulatory/Infusion experience preferred 
  • Pediatric experience preferred  
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license 
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program 
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA 
  • Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies 
  • The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements 
    • Student loan forgiveness – IU Health qualifies under the public service loan forgiveness program. 

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred. 
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Two years experience in an ambulatory setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of procedures for performing the functions appropriate to the specific clinical area and familiarity with designated pieces of equipment and supplies.
  • Requires ability to coordinate a number of functions for a group of patients in an effective timely manner.
  • Requires awareness and understanding of legal implications of patient care activities and performance as a Registered Nurse.
