Registered Nurse - Peds ICU - Full-time, Nights - Relocation Incentive Available!

Job Description

Overview

Indiana University Health is looking for passionate, experienced nurses and upcoming/recent RN graduates to join our team and collaborate with top medical professionals.

Riley at IU Health is ranked as one of the best hospitals in the United States in 10 areas of specialized pediatric healthcare. The academic health center formed by our relationship with the Indiana University School of Medicine offers nurses a unique opportunity to excel in their careers. Our talented Magnet-designated nursing team consistently achieves the highest quality of nursing standards, drawing individuals who are highly motivated to engage in lifelong learning and professional development.

As one of the nation’s busiest sites for pediatric healthcare research, we strive to attract people who are passionate about improving children’s health. Here, you will have access to a wide range of education, research and career options to support your professional growth. You can stay current with the latest medical advancements and be part of a diverse team that is leading the way toward better care and treatments for children.

At IU Health, you will learn and develop your career in significant ways, advancing healthcare and delivering the highest level of patient care. Being an IU Health nurse means building a professional nursing career designed by a culture that accepts your outstanding strengths and supports your personal and professional goals. If you are seeking an organization where you can develop clinical expertise, explore diverse career opportunities, embrace learning, cultivate new relationships, and fuel your spirit of inquiry, apply today.

New Graduates

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development.

Are you looking for a pediatric Registered Nurse position within our Pediatric ICU at Riley? The PICU is specifically seeking current and future RNs who are interested in providing care to a specific group of patients we refer to as Home Vent patients.  For various reasons, home vent patients require additional respiratory support in the early stages of their life warranting tracheostomy and support from a ventilator.  These patients are cared for in the PICU while we provide full training to the patient's caretakers in order to prepare them to be able to fully care for their own child independently at home outside of the hospital setting.  This is challenging work; however, the smiles we get to see on the faces of those parents who eventually leave the hospital, is a reward few nurses get to experience in their career.

NURSING SKILLS GAINED IN THE PEDIATRIC ICU:

  • Learn to provide care and assess critically ill patients.
  • Assist with bedside procedures such as: arterial line placement, central line placement, intubation and extubation, bronchoscopy, chest tube placement, etc.
  • Supporting patients and their families while in the PICU and during end-of-life care.

UNIT SUCCESSES AND DESIGNATIONS:

  • Significant reduction in harm (CLABSI, HAPI, CAUTI) from 2022 to 2023.
  • Charge Nurse, Advisor and Mentor are all roles that have been developed to support our clinical nurses at the bedside especially those who are new and in their first two years of the profession.
  • Improved Employee Engagement scores from 2022 to 2023.
  • Little to no use of RN Travelers in the Riley PICU as compared to other PICUs across the country.
  • Achieved 5th Magnet Designation in January 2024.
  • 90% of our Nurses are BSN prepared with several ASN nurses in pursuit of their BSN.
  • 22.2% of our Nurses are certifies with several others studying and pursuing certification.
  • 1 Daisy Award Recipient and 38 Daisy Award Nominations throughout 2023.
  • 36 Red Shoe Award Recipients throughout 2023.
  • 1 IU Health Values Leadership Award Nomination in 2023.

UNIT CULTURE HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Excellent, safe environment for learning.  We have Nursing Students, new graduate Nurses, Physician Residents and Physician Fellows.
  • Supporting Team Members always asking if you help is needed.
  • Multidisciplinary Team approach to excellent, patient care.
  • Collaborative Nursing and Physician care teams.

Qualifications

  • Requires Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other Advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
