Comprehensive Stroke Unit

IU Health is home to the premier Neuroscience Center that combines our comprehensive neurological services into a single location for a more integrated approach to care.  As part of the Adult Stroke unit at Methodist, you are a key contributor in advancing and providing the most specialized stroke care in Indiana and will be NIHSS certified during orientation. 

IU Methodist's Adult Medical/Stroke Unit is an 18-bed unit designated for the medical/stroke population. Our medical stroke unit provides an opportunity for nurses to learn and grow alongside some of the most highly skilled professionals in the neuroscience community. This team delivers on their dedication to continually improve processes and the quality of care for patients suffering from stroke, seizures, and other neurological deficits. 

This position is referral eligible!

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

  • Highly specialized assessment skills
  • Critical thinking
  • Effective communication with other care providers
  • Time management
  • Prioritization of care
  • Strong in foundation of neurological care
  • The opportunity to obtaining your SCRN (Stroke Certified Registered Nurse) Certification
  • Become NIHSS certified during orientation

Qualifications 

    Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
•    Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
•    Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
•    Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
•    Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
