Job Description

Overview

Indiana University Health is unlike any other healthcare system and we're looking for team members who share the things that matter most to us. People who are inspired by challenging and meaningful work for the good of every patient. People motivated to do their best every day. People who are always ready to apply themselves. As one of Indiana's largest employers, our vision is to lead the transformation of healthcare through quality, innovation and education, and make Indiana one of the nation's healthiest states.

Epic Analyst III

This is a hybrid role with weekly onsite work in Indianapolis, Indiana

The Epic Analyst III is essential in the development, support, and rollout of the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. This role focuses on optimizing workflow processes by configuring and customizing Epic applications to meet the organization's specific needs and collaborating with clinical and operational teams to ensure successful implementation and ongoing use of Epic across the health system. Additionally, the Epic Analyst III acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience and participates in all phases of the system development life cycle, including gathering requirements, developing use cases, and evaluating software solutions. The role also involves creating and maintaining documentation, coordinating testing phases, providing hands-on training and support to end users, and leading team activities related to IT and clinical/business systems.

STRONGLY PREFERRED:

  • Epic Beaker Clinical Pathology Certification
  • 5-7 years as an Epic Beaker Analyst
  • Previous experience in a hospital laboratory setting
  • Background in medical laboratory science

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent years of experience is required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant IIS, clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Epic Certification: Certification in one or more Epic modules (e.g., EpicCare Ambulatory, Willow, Orders) is highly desirable. For internal candidates, obtaining the necessary Epic certification(s) will be an essential part of the onboarding and transition process, with full support provided to ensure successful completion.
  • For IIS candidates: Experience in systems integration, data management, healthcare IT, and workflow automation. Knowledge of system architecture, database design, and project management in a healthcare setting is essential. IIS experience should include working with electronic health record (EHR) systems, system optimization, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring seamless interoperability across platforms. The ability to analyze and configure complex systems to meet user needs is critical.
  • For Clinical candidates: Hands-on clinical experience (e.g., nursing, pharmacy, or allied health professions) with a deep understanding of clinical workflows and patient care processes. Candidates should have experience in utilizing EHR systems within a clinical setting and an understanding of documentation, compliance, and patient safety protocols. Clinical candidates should demonstrate the ability to bridge the gap between technical solutions and real-world clinical applications, ensuring that technology supports and enhances patient care.
  • For both IIS and Clinical candidates: Strong problem-solving skills, the ability to translate user needs into system functionality, and a collaborative mindset to work across interdisciplinary teams. Experience with process mapping, workflow redesign, and data analysis are also valuable. Both backgrounds should reflect an understanding of how to support clinical or operational improvements through technology.
  • Operational Experience in Healthcare Settings: Proven experience in healthcare operations, including a solid understanding of the day-to-day functions of clinical, administrative, or IT departments. Candidates should demonstrate experience working in environments where technology and operations intersect, whether through managing clinical workflows, optimizing system usage, or supporting operational efficiencies. The ability to use operational insights to inform system design and workflow optimization will be critical to ensuring the success of the Epic implementation.
  • Collaborative and Independent Work Abilities: Capable of working autonomously to solve problems, while also being an active contributor in cross-functional teams involving clinical staff, IT professionals, and business leaders. Able to lead discussions, build consensus, and foster teamwork in interdisciplinary settings.
  • Problem-Solving and Solution Translation: Skilled at diagnosing and resolving complex technical and workflow-related issues. Adept at interpreting clinical or business needs and translating them into efficient and practical system solutions that support healthcare delivery and operational goals.
  • Comprehensive Understanding of Healthcare Business Processes and Technology: Deep understanding of healthcare operations, with the ability to connect healthcare business needs with technology. Whether from a clinical or IIS background, demonstrates knowledge of healthcare workflows, including patient care processes, regulatory compliance, and data integrity, to optimize system performance.
  • Knowledge of Healthcare IT Solutions and Interfacing: For IIS candidates, proficiency with IT solutions, data integration, and interfacing between systems. For clinical candidates, familiarity with EHR systems and technology used in care delivery, with an emphasis on improving the user experience and patient outcomes. Experience in both areas enhances the ability to bridge gaps between clinical practice and system functionality.
