Job Title: Assistant Manager - Clinical Operations - Emergency Department
Location: IU Health Bloomington Hospital
Department: Emergency Department
Position Status: Full-Time, Nights/Evenings/Weekends  
Position Overview:
The Assistant Manager of Clinical Operations in the Emergency Department combines clinical expertise with contemporary leadership practices aligned with the IU Health Way to achieve exceptional clinical outcomes. This role works closely with the Unit Manager to develop and implement action plans focused on quality and safety improvements, care affordability, and delivering outstanding patient and team member experiences. The incumbent leads the execution of these initiatives, evaluates their effectiveness, and fosters an environment where the team is empowered to excel in patient care and organizational objectives.
As a vital member of the interprofessional leadership team, the Assistant Manager advances nursing practice through advocacy, evidence-based initiatives, and adherence to professional nursing standards. This role entails operational oversight of a 24/7 staffed ED, including nights, evenings, and weekends, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality emergency care.
Key Responsibilities:  
  • Collaborate with the Unit Manager to develop, implement, and monitor action plans aimed at enhancing quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead the execution of clinical and operational initiatives, analyzing outcomes to inform ongoing improvements.
  • Support and empower staff to deliver excellent patient care while promoting professional growth.
  • Advocate for evidence-based nursing practices and standards daily in the ED environment.
  • Participate actively in the leadership team to ensure continuous, safe, and effective ED operations, including nights, evenings, and weekends.
  • Analyze clinical and operational data to evaluate the success of improvement strategies and identify opportunities for further enhancement.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and excellence in patient outcomes.
Qualifications:  
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department policies.
