Job Description

Overview

This role is located at IU Health Methodist Hospital, our nationally ranked hospital in downtown Indianapolis. IU Health Methodist is a level 1 trauma center that utilizes leading-edge medicine and research to care for the highest acuity patients.

The Certified Surgical Tech (CST) team is part of the surgical team at IU Health, working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel. CSTs provide service and support before, during and after surgical procedures and ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. IU Health CSTs provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room, as is allowed by professional and legal standards and help turn over the operating room after procedures. This team is responsible for ensuring all specimens, equipment, instrumentation and supplies are properly routed and processed.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

o    Requires a High School Diploma/GED.

o    Requires graduating from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.

o    Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist

o    Day shift.

o    Requires Basic Life Support Certification.

o    Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.

o    Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.

o    Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.

o    Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.

o    Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.

o    Multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
