Overview

The Certified Surgical Tech (CST) team is part of the surgical team at IU Health, working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel. CSTs provide service and support before, during and after surgical procedures and ensures the presence and proper arrangement of surgical equipment, supplies and instrumentation in the operating room prior to each operation. IU Health CSTs provide assistance to the surgeon in the operating room, as is allowed by professional and legal standards. Provides help in turning over the operating room after procedures. This team is responsible for ensuring all specimens, equipment, instrumentation, and supplies are properly routed and processed. This is Saturday-Sunday and one weekday schedule (3-12’s). Comes with premium shift pay.

Located in our IU Health Methodist Hospital, our nationally ranked hospital in downtown Indianapolis. IU Health Methodist is a level 1 trauma center that utilizes leading-edge medicine and research to care for the highest acuity patients.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

o    Requires a High School Diploma/GED.

o    Requires graduating from an accredited Surgical Technologist program.

o    Requires certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist or ability to obtain one 4 months after joining IU Health.

o    We welcome upcoming CST Graduates to apply.

o    Requires Basic Life Support Certification.

o    Requires the ability to resource advanced technology.

o    Requires 15 continuing education units annually as required by state law.

o    Requires knowledge of various surgical procedures in order to anticipate the needs of the surgeon and to recognize the problems encountered by the surgeon within 12 months of employment.

o    Requires knowledge of name and function of surgical equipment and instrumentation.

o    Requires strict adherence to policies and regulations regarding maintenance of sterile field.
