Registered Nurse-Clinical Specialty Coordinator - Admissions RN

Job Description

Overview

The Admissions RN’s primary focus is to coordinate inpatient admissions throughout the adult health areas of the hospital (acuity adaptable units, progressive care and critical care areas). This RN will function to assist inpatient nursing staff in completing inpatient admissions, initiate admission orders and patient plans of care, assist primary RN with wound and valuables documentation, and collect admission labs, as well as assist with inpatient discharges. The Admissions RN will also assist with critical and progressive care transport of patients when available and phlebotomy and IV starts. The Admissions RN serves as a mentor to new RNs, focusing on skill acquisition and attainment of clinical judgement. The Admissions RN will also round on units to promote educational, safety and quality initiatives.

Essential Skills:

  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires Basic Life Support and Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor’s of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nursing program accredited through the ACEN or CCNE. New ASN RNs hired after January 1, 2013 will be required to complete their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire into this job.
  • Requires minimum of 2 years prior experience in med/surg nursing, progressive care or higher acuity preferred.
  • Requires efficient organizational skills and tactful communication skills.
  • Requires great attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
  • Requires ability to problem solve and directs follow-up information to appropriate parties.
  • Requires ability to prioritize and maintain a high degree of efficiency in dealing with a variety of changing situations and tasks.
  • Requires high degree of concentration and ability to work under critical time pressures.
  • Requires continual self-assessment and work to advance personal clinical skills.
  • Requires previous teaching/education experience; and knowledge of the teaching-learning process and the principles of adult education.
  • Requires ability to provide clinical reasoning; decision-making and clinical thinking.
  • Requires ability to promote compassion and a therapeutic environment.
  • Requires ability to provide multiple forms of communication (presence; touch; eye contact; etc.) .
  • Requires ability to recognize and appreciate cultural diversity at many levels.
  • Requires ability to provide high level of patient confidentiality.
  • Requires strong written and verbal communications skills at the staff; patient and family levels.
  • Requires ability to actively seek educational opportunities to improve clinical practice.
  • Requires ability to maintain quality-working relationship with peers.
  • Requires ability to react appropriately in any environmental or situation.
