Job Description

Overview

The Executive Director of Retail Health Services is responsible for developing robust retail strategies and driving the implementation of all retail growth and operations for IU Health’s System Health Solutions (SHS) portfolio. This work will support IU Health’s retail initiatives as the largest health care system in Indiana with 36,000 team members. The leader is responsible for ensuring IU Health’s retail portfolio delivers the best possible patient and team member experience through accessibility, convenience, and great patient care. This role collaborates with senior leadership and front-line team members, executes organizational development strategy, and motivates change initiatives across the portfolio to optimize organizational potential and achieve strategic and operational objectives. The Executive Director will also serve as the SHS liaison to our physician group operations partners.

The retail area consists of Urgent Care, Physical and Occupational Therapy, and Sports Outreach with over 20 locations across the state. Retail health services is part of the System Health Solutions business unit which delivered $1.2B in net revenue in 2020. SHS, formed in 2015, brings together many diverse service lines critical to meeting the needs of patients and clients in the complex and constantly evolving world of healthcare. In 2019, Community Health, Population Health, and IU Health plans were brought into SHS to further align the organization to execute on key system strategies.

The IU Health retail organization played a key role during the Covid-19 pandemic response by maintaining accessibility to safe and trusted venues of care. IU Health’s retail portfolio has experienced significant growth and created new services to meet growing patient and client needs such as:

  • On-line Save a Spot Functionality
  • IUH Team Member Vaccine Support
  • Geographic Expansion
  • Clinical Operating Model Transformation
  • Significant Occupational Medicine Growth
  • Enhanced Access for employers

Going forward these service lines are expected to grow in locations and services offered. They are considered a key element to our evolving value-based care strategy.

Qualifications/knowledge/skills/abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree required in applicable clinical specialty, business management or health administration.
  • 10+ years’ experience working in clinical operational oversight functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and operate within regulatory frameworks.
  • Requires analytical capabilities and problem solving to form a plan of action.
  • Requires ability to lead cross-functional work teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Require strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Requires knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local regulatory agency guidelines and laws.
  • Visionary leader who knows how to optimally drive change in a complex, matrixed, distributed and yet system-oriented environment.
  • Must embody IU Health's mission, embrace its vision and values, and lead through respect, humility, and intellectual curiosity.

Key Relationships

Reports to: President, System Health Solutions Retail, Virtual and Home Services

Direct reports: 2 Director level and organization size of 225 team members
