The Behavioral Science Faculty functions as part of the leadership at the Ball Memorial Hospital Family Medicine Residency Center (FMRC).  More regarding the FMRC can be found here.  

The Behavioral Science Faculty is a licensed clinical psychologist, a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and is credentialed as a Medical Associate of at Ball Memorial.  This position is ~50% clinical work, clinical supervision, and physician consultation.  The other ~50% is administrative, teaching, process improvement, and project management. Clinically, the Behavioral Science Faculty provides primary behavioral health care including consultation, diagnostic assessment and counseling services and implements integrated care services to promote the Patient Centered Medical Home model of the FMRC. Serving as a clinical supervisor to internship level psychology trainees and advanced doctoral practicum students is a major component of the position.  For more information about our trainee’s educational requirements please refer to our internship website and training manual.

The Behavioral Science Faculty facilitates lessons and lectures, assists in recruiting activities, and serves as a liaison in interdepartmental collaboration for both the Family Medicine Residency and the Behavioral Health Internship. The Behavioral Science Faculty collaborates with other interdisciplinary team members and the residency directors in development of behavioral science education for Family Medicine Residents, Behavioral Health Interns, and Medical Students. Other duties will be assigned as needed or based on the Behavioral Science Faculty’s specific competencies.

  • Requires licensure as a Health Service Provider of Psychology (HSPP) in the state of Indiana.
  • Requires a degree from an applied doctoral psychology program: Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology. (Marriage and Family Therapists will NOT be considered due to specific licensure needs.)
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.  Training can be obtained on site.
  • Must have the ability to exhibit good interpersonal skills to function in a consultative/educational and research role.
  • Must have the ability to exhibit scholarly writing skill including the use of appropriate word usage and vocabulary, and proper grammar and spelling.
  • Must have the ability to operate a personal computer using various applications; spreadsheet and/or database software.
  • Must have the ability to learn departmental functions and specialized terminology applicable to the departments.
  • Must have the ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
  • Must have the ability to quickly evaluate problems as they arise and be able to take immediate action.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families/significant others, physicians, co-workers, supervisors, and other clinic personnel on a one-on-one basis using appropriate word usage and vocabulary, and proper grammar.
  • Must have the ability to handle discretionary and confidential information.
  • Must have the ability to gain a knowledge and understanding of the organization and department policies and procedures.
  • Must have the ability to exhibit excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to exercise tact and discretion.
  • Must have the ability to remain flexible in order to handle and prioritize work from various department staff.
  • Must have the ability to work independently and autonomously in absence of direct supervision.
  • Must have the ability to work on site during business hours.
