About the Position:

Are you interested in utilizing your Respiratory Therapy license in a way that can benefit the community? Then working as Registered Respiratory Therapist at West Hospital may be the flawless opportunity!

The Respiratory Care Department at IU Health West offers great opportunities to utilize and grow your clinical skills and scope of practice within your respiratory therapist licensure. Our Respiratory Therapy team offers a full service approach providing services to all age ranges.   With our $83 million, 50 bed expansion, our ICU and Acuity Adaptable/Progressive Care units have grown expanding our services. Our respiratory therapist services can be seen in all areas of the facility that include: the emergency department, medical surgical units, ICU, acuity adaptable unit, and labor & delivery/ a level II special care nursery.  

Our Respiratory Therapists work closely with nurses and physicians as an important part of the patient care team.    We have an extensive respiratory assessment and protocol program that gives our therapists the ability to provide the best individualized care for our patients.   Our therapists are trained to perform intubations on all age ranges, arterial line insertions, assist with bedside bronchoscopies and they draw nearly all of the blood gasses ordered.  

We offer an Advanced Respiratory Therapist program that recognizes staff members for their extended contribution to the mission, vision, and values of the West Respiratory Care Department.    The advanced respiratory therapist program encourages team members to participate in committees, process improvement projects, presenting in-services, acting as a resource and preceptor, and leadership.

 Requires current license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the state of Indiana.
• Requires graduation from a CoARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) and regionally accredited respiratory care program.
• Requires that the N.B.R.C. (National Board for Respiratory Care) registry exam be passed within 13 months of hire date. The 13 month requirement for the RRT is void if hire date is one year past graduation date.
• Requires Healthcare Provider Certification. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Preferred ACLS; PALS; and/or NRP certification.
•Requires strong customer service skills.
• Requires effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Requires the ability to deal with confidential patient information.
• Requires basic computer skills and ability to work with EMR.
