The Tobacco Treatment Specialist (TTS) provides direct tobacco treatment care to cancer patients and education to patients and their families.  The Tobacco Treatment Specialist will possess a thorough grasp of all aspects of comprehensive, evidence-based tobacco treatment including the psychology of addictive behavior, physiological aspects of withdrawal, and evidence-based tobacco treatment modalities that facilitate the tobacco recovery process.

Engages participating individuals both telephonically and face-to-face and provides tobacco use assessment and treatment interventions in accordance with evidence-based practices. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team in provision of direct patient counseling services as appropriate.

Gather and record detailed and accurate information in regards to program participants and outcomes. Maintain thorough and confidential records of counseling sessions in the patient’s confidential electronic medical record. Participate in various research studies, applying protocols and procedures appropriate to the subject population as appropriate.

Completion of a Tobacco Treatment Specialist course accredited by the Council for Tobacco Treatment Training programs is required. National Certificate for Tobacco Treatment Practice is preferred. 

 Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Dependency or related area is required. Requires pending certification through ICAADA. Requires 400 hours of direct supervision as required by undergraduate chemical dependence degree.

• Requires some experience in the treatment of chemically dependent individuals.
