At IU Health, you will learn and develop in significant ways, advancing healthcare for all! Being an IU Health nurse means building a professional nursing career designed with competitive benefits, a culture that accepts your outstanding strengths, and supports your personal and professional goals. If you are seeking an organization where you can engage expertly, develop clinical expertise, embrace learning, cultivate new relationships, and fuel your spirit of inquiry, apply today!

Patients are placed on Extracorporeal Life Support (ECLS) for acute, reversible cardiac and/or pulmonary failure. These patients are managed in the Cardiovascular or Cardiac Medical Critical Care unit.

The Adult ECMO Program is a member of the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO). We are designated as a Center of Excellence, which demonstrates excellence in providing ECLS therapy. We are the largest ECMO center in Indiana and are 10th in the U.S. for ECMO patient volume with continued outcomes better than the national averages for respiratory and cardiac support.

Candidates are required to maintain continuing education and attend regular meetings within the program. The ECMO clinician is responsible for managing the ECMO circuit(s), troubleshooting and collaborating with the bedside nurse, and communication with the multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate is a clinician who has a minimum of 2 years of critical care experience. They should be adaptable in a fast paced, rapidly changing critical care environment and have scheduling flexibility.

  • Requires an Associate of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires at least 2+ years of Critical Care ICU RN experience

Safeguarding our patients and each other is an important part of how we deliver the best care possible to the communities we serve. As a condition of employment, IU Health requires all new hires to receive various vaccinations, including the influenza and COVID-19 vaccines, barring an approved exemption. New hires will also be provided the option to submit proof of previous vaccination.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity and inclusion at IU Health.
