Job Description

Overview

The Director- Employee Benefit Plan is responsible for leading the end-to-end IU Health employee insurance plan product strategy for IU Health Plans. The leader will ensure the provider network and plan benefits are designed with competitive and useful benefits, quality and experience are enhanced, new care delivery models and IUH team member incentive programs are thoughtfully integrated and optimized, and product performance is optimized.  The leader has a data-driven approach, is generally comfortable with healthcare analytics and health insurance product pricing, and continuously and thoughtfully champions the success of the Team Member Plan. The leader ensures market recognition of the IU Health Plans brand through a data-driven approach to ensure competitive health insurance product pricing. Through advanced knowledge of emerging trends, tiered network products, high-performance networks as well as virtual-only offerings, the leader will enable membership growth with enhanced quality and experience for our members. The leader has a close working relationship with Health Plans quality and member services teams and has a keen understanding of the NCQA quality program and the importance of member and employer group experience. The leader collaborates with various claims operations teams to help frame and escalate issues and opportunities.  Specifically, the leader will develop a working understanding of internal administrative functions and costs and will continuously partner with operational leadership to assess for efficiencies. The leader must be a close, compatible partner with the System HR/Benefits team.  The emphasis will be on member (team member) and stakeholder experience. The leader collaborates with pharmacy teams to support efforts around formulary development, drug tier placement, cost sharing strategies, and network selection to achieve the highest clinical outcomes and lower member costs.  The leader will be able to strategize and execute beyond the Health Plans perspective, always considering the total (System) impact to recommendations and decisions. The leader collaborates to prioritize and escalate health plan issues and opportunities.  This will include developing a working understanding of internal administrative functions and costs and continuously partnering with operational leadership to assess for efficiencies.

Qualifications/Skills/Experiences:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10+ years of healthcare experience; prefer prior product or employee benefits experience and some prior experience or familiarity with pharmacy benefits management (PBM) oversight or administration.
  • Prefer candidates who have experience with integrated (provider/payer) delivery systems and can effectively balance traditional health plans needs with those of the broader health system (provider side).
  • Must be equally strategic and operational and have a track record of managing and leading teams focused on improvement, insights, strategy, and execution.
  • Able to inspire teams, set a vision, drive outcomes and do so through influence (versus authority or direct reporting lines).
  • Able to balance multiple competing priorities and deliver.
  • Must have demonstrated experience of delivering results in a matrix environment.
