The Child Life Specialist provides therapeutic consultation, education, performance improvement and emotional support for children and their families. Uses identified and approved assessment strategies and tools to determine patient needs, including psycho-social preparation for hospitalization or other stressful events. Conducts evaluations, records evaluations in patients' medical records and consults with physicians and staff to provide optimal family centered care. Trains and works with volunteers to effectively interact with hospitalized children.

 Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Child Life, Child Development, Therapeutic Recreation, Social Work or related field.
• Requires certification or eligibility for certification as a Child Life Specialist.
• Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
• Requires 1-3 years of relevant experience.
• Requires experience in working with hospitalized children or children with healthcare needs.
• Experience leading therapeutic sessions with individuals and groups, along with experience working with volunteers is preferred.
