Our team at Riley Hospital wants to walk alongside you on the path to becoming a truly best-in-class nurse. We’re looking for current nursing students entering their senior year who will be graduating in 2022.
What is the IU Health Patient Care Internship “PCI” Program?
This is a six-week summer intensive program consisting of interactive classroom, unit time and weekly connection meetings with other PCIs. We are committed to nurturing the development of the next generation of nursing professionals and this program is a fantastic way to increase critical thinking, prioritization and socialization! We believe that phenomenal nurses are built and support and inspiration is critical to the development of a new nurse.
By participating in the PCI program, nursing students have an opportunity to work with unit leadership on an Evidence Based Practice project to positively impact patient care.
PCIs are designated an RN mentor throughout the program that will support the PCI and facilitate the learning process. The program begins June 1, 2022 and does involve a full-time commitment during the initial 6-week period of the program. After the 6-week intensive, the PCI will work on the unit functioning as a Patient Care Assistant (PCA). The work requirement after the summer intensive is flexible and requires a minimum of 24 hours/every 6-week scheduling period.
The Patient Care Intern (PCI) works under the direction of the registered nurse (RN) as a non-licensed team member. As a non-licensed team member, the PCI provides care to designated patients and supports the patient care team. Job duties include observation of the registered nurse, provision of activities of daily living, mobility assistance, continuous observation including suicide prevention, and ensuring the patient's surroundings are clean and orderly.
