Overview
This unit specializes in Surgical Oncology. Nurses promote safe recovery from surgeries that manage gastrointestinal cancer, chronic bowel disease, and hernia repairs. Nurses gain experience in managing ostomies, complex wound care, and opioid-sparing pain management. It provides a collaborative nursing driven care. This unit is fast paced with lots of team collaboration. Nurses will be able to educate patients and families of the illness while building professional relationships.
Nurses on this unit assist with bedside procedures, are trained in pain management, management of therapeutic specialty beds, hemodynamic monitoring, and are also trained in the insertion of small bore feeing tubes and bowel management devices.
