Overview
IU Health Bedford is a Critical Access hospital serving Lawrence and surrounding counties. We are proud to be recognized by the ANCC as a Pathway to Excellence facility that is committed to creating a positive practice environment that empowers and engages our team. Our Medical Surgical unit contains 40 Semi-Private Beds, and cares for a variety of conditions for all adult patients. The most common conditions treated include stroke, TIA, diabetes management, pancreatitis, and wound management, and post-surgical plus much more. Our nursing family consists of Charge Nurses, Primary Care RN’s, Patient Care Assistants, and a Unit Clerk. We offer a variety of services to our patients including 24/7 Respiratory Care Services, Radiology, Visiting Specialty Service Consultations, Hospitalist Program, and Telemedicine.
Nursing skills gained through working on this unit include Stroke Certification and the ability to care for a wide range of patient conditions. You will gain immense knowledge in a place you’ll be happy to call home. Certification is encouraged and supported. Robust onboarding program which includes personal coaches and mentors. New Graduates Welcome. We are committed to providing a comprehensive, personalized support system to new graduate nurses to help you transition to the role of professional nurse.
Once hired to a department, alongside nursing orientation, all new graduate nurses in their first nursing role will have the opportunity to participate in a Nurse Residency Program called "Transition to IU Health Nursing Practice." The Nurse Residency program goals are to provide socialization and support, enhance clinical judgment, and promote professional development
The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
