Work that Matters

Work that Matters

At IU Health, your personal and professional growth is a top priority. That’s why we offer a variety of development programs and volunteer opportunities that align with our mission and values, allowing team members to engage and grow in meaningful ways that matter most to them.

Personal & Professional Development

From your first day at orientation, you’ll have access to diverse development programs that will influence you as a caregiver, a professional, a team member and a leader. Some of the development programs we offer include:

  • Continuing education for healthcare professionals.
  • e-Learning modules and in-person courses for training and skill development.
  • Grand rounds for physicians, nurses and other clinicians.
  • Emerging Leaders, a program designed for young professionals to develop the leaders of tomorrow.
  • Affinity groups, such as IU Health Statewide Pride, IU Health Minority Professionals and IU Health Women Leaders, designed to help IU Health team members develop professionally and connect with their peers.
  • Rapid Improvement Events and other opportunities for team members to get involved in Lean transformation.
  • Leadership Development Institute, an annual full-day conference to inspire and cultivate great leaders.
  • Tuition reimbursement for qualifying team members.
  • A yearlong nurse residency program called 'Transition to IU Health Nursing Practice' for new graduate nurses through their first year to provide socialization and support, enhance clinical judgment and promote professional development.

Beyond the development programs and initiatives we offer across the system, many departments have additional development opportunities specific to their teams and areas of focus.

Community Involvement

Every day, IU Health team members positively impact our patients and state by carrying out our mission in the work they do, which extends far beyond the walls of our facilities. We provide a variety of volunteer opportunities through our volunteer program, IU Health Serves, which focuses on wellness education, improving access to care, community revitalization and obesity prevention.

IU Health Serves has multiple volunteer opportunities, including:

Day of Service: Our largest volunteer activity of the year, consisting of high-impact projects designed to engage IU Health team members in activities that address identified community health priorities. More than 2,000 team members volunteer for IU Health Day of Service each year, working on a variety of projects, including:

  • Revitalizing community parks and playgrounds.
  • Building bat houses.
  • Planting native trees.
  • Assembling community bicycles.
  • Packing healthy snack packs for students.
  • Stuffing backpacks with educational literature for students.

Dollars for Doers: A program that provides volunteer recognition by awarding grants to nonprofits where team members volunteer.

Lunch and Learns: These are educational sessions for team members to learn more about community organizations.

Volunteer Projects: We offer impactful volunteer service projects with a variety of community organizations throughout the year.

In addition to volunteer programs, we are committed to investing more than $500 million annually in community benefit programs, including access to affordable healthcare, behavioral health and substance abuse, and healthy weight and nutrition.
