Description

The Specialty Practice Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) licensed by the state of Indiana. This Specialty Practice Registered Nurse, through study, supervised practice, and validation of competency, has acquired knowledge and developed skills necessary for the practice within their area of expertise (WOUND, OSTOMY, CONTINENCE NURSE, ADVANCED INFUSION TEAM, etc). The Specialty Practice Nurse utilizes the nursing process to develop, implement and adhere to policies and procedures based on the Professional Organization's Standards of Practice. The Specialty Practice Nurse should possess verbal and written skills that facilitate the effective communication of ideas and facts to patients, caregivers, and other individuals within and beyond the scope of the specialty. In keeping with the holistic approach to patient care, it is the Specialty Practice Nurse's responsibility to educate the patient and/or caregiver about the prescribed therapy. The Specialty Practice Nurse must evaluate products for clinical application. It is essential that this expert nurse participate in continuing education within their area of expertise and that this knowledge be shared with colleagues in collaborating disciplines in order to improve care. The Specialty Practice Nurse is responsible for leading quality assurance, performance improvement, and research as it relates to this specialty and is an active member of quality improvement committees/task forces. The Specialty Practice Nurse should commit to achieving quality at the most cost effective level. This nurse is an essential consultant to the healthcare profession, patient and/or caregiver, patient's family and the community. The principle concerns of this consultation are patient advocacy and delivery of safe, competent, and quality specialized nursing care.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Certification required.
  • Certification within specialty area within 2 years of accepting position.
  • Indiana RN license.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program through Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) required. Consideration may be given to Associate's as above with the expectation a Bachelor's will be completed within two years of hire
  • Demonstrated expertise in the practice of nursing validated by five years of current clinical practice and two years in the area of specialty practice
