IU Health University Hospital Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery Team

IU Health Transplant is the only comprehensive transplant program in Indiana and one of the nation's largest solid organ transplant centers. Of 253 transplant centers in the United States in 2017, IU Health Transplant ranked 2nd in pancreas transplant volume, 5th in liver transplant volume, 6th in intestine transplant volume and ranked in the top 10 for overall transplant volume in the country. The transplants performed at IU Health in 2017 made up 81% of the total transplants performed in the state.

The Abdominal Organ Transplant Surgery Team is made up of highly skilled and dedicated Registered Nurses and Certified Surgical Technologists who specialize in the care of the complex surgical transplant patient. This team is called upon to perform all abdominal transplant and transplant related surgeries at University Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children. Traditionally this position functions exclusively as an on-call status but scheduled shifts may be available. Compensation is competitive and includes an on call hourly stipend at a specialty call rate and call back premium. This position requires a minimum of one year OR experience.

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of Indiana University Health, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
