Builds, maintains and edits records and files in a system-wide computerized system. Provides statistical reports based on system data. Responsible for data entry of department data and work requests. Generates management reports and work orders to support continued operations. Ensures the integrity of operations of the department database and ensures the proper use of the system and preparation of backup data.

Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Requires knowledge of database management and supporting work flow.
  • Requires extensive knowledge of computer desktop skills.
  • Requires a minimum of 2 years relevant experience.

Job Duties of Data Manager:

  • Reviews clinical data about Bone Marrow Transplant Patients, and submits data to the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) and enters data into the Program's BMT Database "Stemsoft".
    • Autologous Transplant
    • Allogeneic Transplant
    • CAR T-cell Therapy
  • Must have basic understanding of medical nomenclature.
  • Must be able to interpret basic information from History and Physical.
  • Learning includes:
    • Concepts of types of blood cancers
    • Concepts of testing done to determine the type of cancer
    • Concepts of types of toxicity and side effects of cellular therapy
    • Concepts of donor cell collection
    • Concepts of recipient engraftment of donor cells.
  • Must be equally comfortable working independently or with a small group.
  • Works in cubicle office setting with Quality Management, Pre-BMT Nurse Coordinators, and 3 other Data Specialists.
  • Novice has weeks of orientation with experienced data specialists. Always has at-the-elbow support and is able to confer with colleagues for guidance at any time.
  • Attends daily rounds on the unit to gather data about transplant toxicities, adverse events, and morbidity, which are reportable.
  • Attends weekly Interdisciplinary rounds with entire BMT Program
  • Attends monthly Data Manager group meetings with Quality Management.
  • Hours

    Mon thru Friday-- 8 hours per day. Some flexibility in hours can be allowed, once candidate can work somewhat independently. For instance, one DM works 07-1530, another 10-1830.
